Ben Davis – has pursued a varied
musical career encompassing classical,
world, pop, early music and jazz.
Working with the likes of:
Django Bates, Christine Tobin, Jason Yarde,
Kylie Minogue, Julian Joseph,
the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra,
Claire Martin, Jamiroquai, Ingrid Laubrock
and Julia Biel.
In 2009 he was nominated for the
Mercury Music Award.

I’ve been working on the harmony to this piece by Debussy. This is what i do on trains, i take the masters with me. It’s a great beginning, deep and yet so simple. Modulation from G to E major and then the opening phrase harmonized with fourth inversion 7th chords, no doubt based on a whole tone scale. Really pretty.. This is in the guitar key by the way, the original piano score is in Ab rather than G.
Im working on this stuff with pianist Dorian Ford who for many years has studied both Jazz and classical masters and performed the results. Its so much clearer on piano but then if you have it in your head its all the same. We are having fun.
